- LARGEST EVER ASTHMA TRIAL HIGHLIGHTS SAFETY OF PULMICORT® TREATMENT DURING PREGNANCY Lund, Sweden, December 15, 2005: Five year results from the START trial (inhaled Steroid Treatment As Regular Therapy in early asthma), published today in Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, reveal that treating mild, persistent asthma during pregnancy with Pulmicort® (budesonide) results in similar number of healthy children delivered in comparison to treatment with placebo[1].

- ANALYSIS SHOWS FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT INHALED CORTICOSTEROIDS PROTECT AGAINST CARDIO-ISCHAEMIC EVENTS IN COPD 19th September 2005, European Respiratory Society Congress, Copenhagen: For the first time, the inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) budesonide - a common treatment for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) - has been shown to reduce cardio-ischemic events in patients with mild to moderate COPD, according to a post-hoc a analysis of the EUROSCOP study, presented at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress in Copenhagen today.[1]

- ASTRAZENECA SUBMITS REGULATORY APPLICATION FOR NEW HFA pMDI FOR PULMICORT® 28 June, 2005. Lund, Sweden. AstraZeneca announced today the filing in the first European markets, of a new pressurised metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) formulation of the inhaled corticosteroid Pulmicort® (budesonide) for the treatment of asthma in adults and children. The currently available chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) pMDI formulation has been on the market since December 1981 and, in accordance with the Montreal Protocol, will be replaced by a non-ozone depleting device based on hydrofluoroalkanes (HFA).
